Sadly, I had to leave town the day of my friend's service. Steve was the friendliest guy and always wore a smile on his face. I remember him being a great drawer with a steady hand who could draw circles (heck, castles) around me in drafting class in the Chatard Annex. This is so sad for his family.
STEPHEN ALLEN JOHANTGES, 48, of Indianapolis went home to be with his grandparents on Saturday, August 6, 2016. He was born in Indianapolis, IN. November 11, 1967 to George Allen and Deborah Lee (Sanders) Johantges.
Steve (or Stevie to his family), was a loving and caring persona and let that show with his careers. He took care of his father for 8 years after his stroke. He also worked in the medical field for many years before finding his true passion of being an EMT. However, Stevie had many passions. First, he LOVED I U Basketball and worshipped the ground that Bobby Knight walked on. Stevie was also very involved in theatre while attending Bishop Chatard High School. He was also an avid reader and absolutely adored his first car, A Cougar, where he played countless tapes of Elvis Presley.
But, what kept a smile on his face were his Grandparents, the late Anabelle Johantges and Ernie and Juanita Sanders. These three individuals were his soulmates. I bet he’s up there now playing card with his Grandma’s and talking I U Basketball with his Grandpa.
Stevie is survived by: his parents, George and Deborah Johantges of Indianapolis, Indiana; his brother, Christopher Johantges, a sister-in-law (Megan Johantges) and an ex sister-in-law (Carol Johantges); 2 nephews, Brandon and Cameron Johantges; a step- nephew, Anthony Kramer; and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by: grandparents, Carl and Anabelle Johantges; grandparents, Ernie and Juanita Sanders; and niece, Reagan Johantges.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Indiana Funeral Care; Harry W. Moore Chapel at 1 pm. Visitation will be from 11 -1, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Indiana Funeral Care.
